January 12 - February 9

Ages 10-15

Over this exciting five-week course, young actors will develop their skills as budding writers! Inspired by Emily’s Farewell Monologue in the classic Thornton Wilder Play, Our Town, students will write quarantine monologues about their experiences during the global pandemic, leading up to a Broadway-style audition and casting. The last two classes will shift into “rehearsal mode” and explore cold-readings and scene work.  This class will also include one 30 minute private session!

In the process of monologue-building, students will learn the importance of:

-Creating a powerful “moment before”

-Knowing who they are speaking to

-Being aware of their imagined environments -Building an emotional arc in their pieces -Speaking and writing their truth.

In the audition and rehearsal sections of class, students will have the chance to put their memorization and performance skills to the test! They will also experience a director work- session in a fun, safe and nurturing environment.
