FOUNDATIONS IN KATHAK

Kathak Dance is one of the major classical dances of Northern India and performed for centeries.  It is an art of story telling where dancers tell stories by creating rhythm with the feet, by using stylized gestures and movements, and with facial expressions.  The whirling movements, musical footwork, high speed energetic turns and striking poses are key features of this dance form.

This course is an introduction to Kathak Dance as an art form.  Emphasis will be on developing beginning Kathak Dance skills and acquiring a basic movement vocabulary to promote creative exploration.
